The Canadian Geotechnical Journal is considered to be the foremost journal for publishing records of Canadian efforts, activities, successes and achievements in the field of geotechnique by Canadian geotechnical practitioners. Now published by Canadian Science Publishing as of 2010, the CGJ has been published since 1960 (originally by CGS directly) and enjoys an excellent national, and international, reputation and is considered to be one of the best in the geotechnical field, world-wide.

Although not connected directly to the Canadian Geotechnical Journal, the Society has remained in close contact with the CGJ throughout the years and is a great supporter of its mandate.

The Canadian Geotechnical Journal has a tradition of selecting distinguished CGS members to serve as the editor.

The present Editor continues this tradition and is: Published since 1963, this monthly journal features articles, notes, and discussions related to new developments in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering, and applied sciences.

The topics of papers written by researchers and engineers/scientists active in industry include soil and rock mechanics, material properties and fundamental behaviour, site characterization, foundations, excavations, tunnels, dams and embankments, slopes, landslides, geological and rock engineering, ground improvement, hydrogeology and contaminant hydrogeology, geochemistry, waste management, geosynthetics, offshore engineering, ice, frozen ground and northern engineering, risk and reliability applications, and physical and numerical modelling. Contributions that have practical relevance are preferred, including case records.

Purely theoretical contributions are not generally published unless they are on a topic of special interest (like unsaturated soil mechanics or cold regions geotechnics) or they have direct practical value.
