Boston, MA – July, 7 2015 – There is a close connection between broader popular trends, consumer preferences and expectations on wireless devices and services. When designing a wireless device or service, understanding the broader trends will help designers identify a potential direction. Moreover, absorbing these factors is likely to help retain more consumer interest.

A new report from the Mobile Device UX group at Strategy Analytics (www.strategyanalytics.com) investigating cultural trends and factors that could potentially influence and the design of wireless devices, has found that individualism, minimalistic, hint of color, natural materials, and an emphasis on native culture are the outstanding design trends in both the US and China. The top considerations that manufacturers and service provides should take from these include:

  • Minimalism continues to be the basis of a desired design
  • Adopting native cultural factors and natural materials are ways to endow a timeless entity into a design
  • The design must fit into a consumers’ lifestyle – in the US this would be bonding design with healthy food, workout and fitness; while in China, this would be helping to achieve a more relaxing, pressure-free lifestyle
  • When applying new design factors to a product, it is important to gain consumer validation to understand the best approach in bringing designs to market that are appealing
