Africa is the second largest and the second most populous continent in the world. It has about 1.1 billion population and 15% of the world’s human population. It has 54 countries including countries such as Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, and Sudan. Most African countries are republics that operate under a presidential system, although some are governed by military dictators.

The Middle East & Africa IT services market accounts for just around 2% of the global IT services market. The market in this region grew modestly in recent years and is expected to continue to grow at a similar pace in the foreseeable future too. The key factors driving the market are favorable government initiatives and increases in adoption of IT services, especially cloud services, by major industries especially in Middle East countries.

The Middle East & Africa information technology services market is expected to grow from around $16 billion in 2016 to around $19 billion in 2020. Hardware Support Services was the largest segment in the Middle East and Africa’s IT Services market with around 51% share of the market. Software and BPO Services was the second largest segment in the Middle East and Africa’s IT Services market with around 38% share of the market. Cloud Services was the third largest segment in the Middle East and Africa’s IT Services market with around 11% share of the market.

Internet penetration in the Middle East region grew from around 26% in 2011 to over 41% in 2016. The internet subscriber base in the Middle East stands at about 160 million in 2016. Fixed broadband connections are low in this region with just about 19 million connections in 2016. According to the latest ITU estimates, on an average just about 5 in 100 individuals in the Middle East region have a fixed broadband subscription. Approximately 8 in 10 internet users in the region use the dominant social media platforms, Facebook and WhatsApp. Mobile internet use in this region is higher than fixed broadband usage. In 2016, nearly 50 in every 100 individuals in this region subscribed to mobile internet. Rapid penetration of smartphones is the primary factor for comparatively high mobile internet subscriptions. Average internet speed in Middle Eastern countries ranges between 1-3 Mbps.
