This report presents the findings of two primary research studies Strategy Analytics Wireless Media Lab conducted on mobile data plan preferences, management, and behaviors related to going from an unlimited data plan to a limited data plan. With increases in data-rich mobile services such as streaming video and music, current users who have unlimited data plans are reluctant to give up their plans unless their mobile operators are willing to replace that highly valued offering with one of perceived equal value. Strategy Analytics has identified not only how mobile operators could handle this transition at the store level, but also what consumers are expecting in return to prevent potential operator churn and overall user dissatisfaction.
