2016/01/11 CES 2016 Tablet News Part 1: Windows Tablet Options Grow

  by Eric Smith | Jan 06, 2016

We weren’t expecting a lot of tablets announcements at CES, but the lack of tablets and mobile devices from companies like LG and Sony this year did stand out. We should expect more unveilings at Mobile World Congress in March.

Still, there was one big announcement and a trickle of others which solidified our view that
Windows Tablets will continue to experience growth in 2016.

Samsung Galaxy TabPro S
Samsung has come back to the Windows Tablet market after its foray with the ATIV Book. This premium Windows 10 device running on a 6th Gen Intel Skylake Core M processor also packs LTE in a 2-in-1 Tablet form factor. Pricing is not yet available, though availability begins in February 2016. We expect more mobile-first OEMs to get into the Windows Tablet market as the segment grows further this year.

HP Pavilion x2 12”
Building on the positive reception of its 10” Pavilion 2-in-1 Tablet, HP is releasing a $499 12” model to better suit productivity needs. We played around with it during one of the events today and despite its Intel Atom processor (Core M configurations will be available as well), it was snappy and responsive. The WUXGA display, Bang & Olufsen speakers, and the solid metal chassis all gave it a quality feel. Availability begins February 7, 2016.

There are a few other OEMs with tablet news to announce and we will be covering those announcements, getting our hands on products, and writing more here in the coming days.
