2013/08/07 OECD Fixed Broadband Price Benchmarking results for June 2013 show almost a third of plans now 45 Mb/s or more

Advertised average download speeds increase in many countries

Strategy Analytics, Boston, MA - August 1, 2013 - The most recent fixed broadband price benchmarking results from Strategy Analytics shows a marked increase in advertised average download speeds for broadband services across the 34 OECD plus 6 non-OECD countries over the last quarter.

Almost a third of all plans now offer a download speed of 45 Mb/s or above. This represents a 4 percent increase over the previous quarter. These higher speed services are available from 96 of the 121 ISPs tracked. Subscribers to these services can expect to pay between USD PPP 45 and USD PPP 66 per month, on average, depending on the bundle of services they opt for.

The OECD Fixed Broadband Price Benchmarking service is provided by the Teligen division of Strategy Analytics, and offers an on-going insight into the price developments and relationships for fixed broadband services in the OECD countries, plus a selected number of non-OECD countries.

Teligen Director Halvor Sannaes said: "Increases in fixed broadband speeds are something we will continue to see, as operators roll out new services, in particular as we see more fiber-based services coming online".

Senior Tariff Consultant, Josie Sephton added: "The increase in average download speed over the past quarter was particularly notable, but not entirely unexpected given the continual changes we are seeing with broadband offerings".
