2013/08/30 Outlook improving for enterprise router market

Boston, MASSACHUSETTS, August 29, 2013—Market research firm Infonetics Research released vendor market share and preliminary analysis from its 2nd quarter 2013 (2Q13) Enterprise Routers market share and forecasts report.

ANALYST NOTE

“I don’t want to call it a turnaround yet, but trends are starting to look more positive for enterprise routing,” notes Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research. “For the first time in a year, revenue grew on a year-over-year basis in the second quarter of 2013 as the public sector vertical returned back to life.”

2Q13 ENTERPRISE ROUTER MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

  • The global enterprise router market totaled $945 million in 2Q13, up 12% from 1Q13, and up 6% from the year-ago 2nd quarter (2Q12)
  • Businesses’ move to low-end routers is slowing: the low-end router and branch office router segments are now growing equally on a year-over-year basis
  • North America turned in another strong quarter, with router sales up 14% quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year in 2Q13
  • Infonetics doesn’t expect EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, Africa) to be a strong growth market this year, but 2Q13 points to a bottom for enterprise router sales in the region
  • Juniper leapfrogged HP to move into the #2 position behind perennial enterprise router market leader Cisco in 2Q13
    • Juniper’s sales jumped more than 40% sequentially due to a government project
