2013/07/18 ZigBee Chipset Shipments 2012-2017: ZigBee Has Found its Home

Abstract

ZigBee and the Internet of Things (IoT) have been associated with one another for a number of years, and it’s always been “on the horizon” of things to come. No longer is that so with the advent of home control services from cable and satellite providers. ZigBee will be the beneficiary of this new paradigm with a multitude of providers turning to the standard for their home control services. The immediate impact to ZigBee is the shift of providers to select ZigBee RF4CE as the connectivity standard for set-top box remote controls, laying the foundation for a much larger ZigBee network in the home.

This report contains 5-year worldwide forecasts of ZigBee and Non-ZigBee 802.15.4 shipments for the commercial building control (HVAC, lighting, security, and other), home control (HVAC, lighting, security, and other), healthcare, network device, remote control, outdoor lighting, and smart meter markets. An analysis of competing standards like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EnOcean, 6LoWPAN, Z-Wave, and Insteon is given in addition to a 5-year BOM estimate for ZigBee modules and transceivers.
